Tragic Fate! Kristina Killed Cates, Sonny Was Just Trying To Protect His Daughter!

General Hospital spoilers tease that Christina Corinos Davis was mentally unstable the night John Kates was murdered by two gunshots. Of course, we saw Sonny Corinthos pull the trigger on screen, and Kates collapsed shortly after. But perhaps that was Christina’s imagination, and the writers are creating a twisted version of what happened at the Caiman boathouse that night.

Fans know Sonny is a notorious mafia boss with a dark and scandalous past. His name is often associated with crime, power, and control of the underworld. However, in recent years, Sonny’s role in the more brutal aspects of his business seems to have receded. While he still maintains his influence and power, he has distanced himself from the bloodshed that marked his rise to power. Sonny hasn’t directly pulled the trigger on anyone in a long time. When someone needed to be eliminated, it was usually his loyal enforcer, Jason Morgan, or another trusted associate who would do the dirty work.

This shift helped to create a more restrained image of Sonny—a man who was still intimidating but did not actively participate in the killings. However, that all changed in a shocking moment when viewers saw Sonny seemingly shoot and kill Kates. It was a moment that left fans stunned. How could Sonny, after all these years of avoiding personal involvement in such acts, suddenly revert to this violent persona? Could there be more to it than what was seen on screen?

A closer look at the events leading up to this moment raises uncomfortable questions, especially regarding the involvement of Sonny’s daughter, Christina. Christina is Sonny’s troubled and emotionally vulnerable daughter who has been going through a rough time. In her vulnerable and impulsive state, she took her father’s gun and headed for the Caimans Boathouse. What happened there is a tragic blur in Christina’s memory, but what everyone knows is that Kates was dead and lying in a pool of blood. Dazed and traumatized, Christina fled the scene and was deeply confused about what had happened.

In her daze, she began to piece together her memory—or at least what she believed to be the truth—that her father Sonny had pulled the trigger. Christina’s fragmented memories may simply be a product of her shock and guilt. It is entirely possible that in her confusion, Christina’s mind latched onto the idea that Sonny was responsible. It was a twisted defense mechanism to distance herself from the horror of what she had done.

But instead of correcting her, Sonny let this version of events play out. Despite his own internal struggles, Sonny chose to remain silent. He let Christina believe that he was responsible for Kates’s death. The reasons for Sonny’s silence were complex and deeply rooted in his love for Christina. As a father, Sonny would do anything to protect his child, even if it meant sacrificing his own freedom.

In this case, Sonny may have seen Christina’s fragile mental state and realized that the truth could push her over the edge. Not only was he protecting her from the legal consequences of her actions, but he was also shielding her from the unbearable guilt that could destroy her. By letting Christina believe that he was responsible, Sonny took on the burden of the crime. He wanted to ensure that his daughter would not have to face the devastating reality of what she had done. It was an act of love, however twisted.

However, Sonny’s decision to keep the truth from her sets in motion a tragic chain of events. Christina’s memories of that night are fractured but not completely gone. Eventually, fragments of what really happened begin to resurface. She begins to question the version of events she has accepted, and over time, the horrifying truth becomes clearer. Christina starts to realize that she was the one who pulled the trigger, not her father.

The slow revelation of Christina’s own guilt pushes her to the brink of a complete mental breakdown. At some point, the weight of her actions becomes too much for Christina to bear, and she makes the difficult decision to turn herself in. The guilt, confusion, and emotional damage push her to the brink of a breakdown, and she ends up in Ferncliff, a psychiatric facility. It is the only way she can begin to heal the trauma of what she has done.
