Cameron Mathison Staying On General Hospital

Cameron Mathison had several independent movies under his belt before he joined All My Children as Ryan Lavery in 1998. He left the soap for good in 2011. The former romance novel cover model has worn many hats in the entertainment industry over the years.

He was a contestant on Season 5 of Dancing With The Stars and has worked as a correspondent for Good Morning America and Entertainment Tonight. He co-hosted Hallmark’s Home & Family for several seasons and starred in multiple movies for the network. But he left Hallmark for rival station GAC in 2023.

In 2021, he made his return to soaps when he joined General Hospital as a recast Drew, previously played by the late Billy Miller. But rumors swirled earlier this year that Cameron Mathison was on his way out of the ABC soap. The rumors started when it was announced that Steve Burton was returning to the soap as Jason Morgan. However, Mathison spoke out to deny he was leaving the daytime soap.

Shares Health Update After Cancer Battle

In 2019, the actor revealed that he had been diagnosed with kidney cancer. He underwent surgery to remove the tumor and a small part of his kidney.

Entertainment Tonight recently caught up with the actor. He shared an update on his health nearly five years after being declared cancer-free following the surgery.  Mathison said he was feeling “great” but keeps in check with his health.

You know that I work really hard at this and I take it real serious, as far as this transformation and rebounding from the cancer journey, specifically. But also [in terms of] longevity and continuing to do blood work and gut tests and hormone tests and then doing my MRIs and CT scans. And I keep on it the best I can.”

He added that he tries his best to stay positive and spread awareness about cancer.
