‘GH’ Scott Reeves Reveals Emotional Response To Steve’s Return

Actor Scott Reeves is making a return to Port Charles. His character, Steven Webber, is rejoining the world of General Hospital. Reeves himself has recently talked about what it was like returning to the soap.

Scott Reeves Had Asked Showrunners When Steven Would Return

Reeves got his start in soaps playing Jake Hogansen on Days of Our Lives. After a few film and television appearances, he joined the cast of The Young and the Restless in 1991, playing Ryan McNeil. Initially intended to be recurring, Reeves appeared in the role until 2001.

In 2009, Reeves joined the cast of General Hospital as Steven Webber, taking on the role from Shaun Benson. Initially intended to be recurring, much like with the McNeil character, Reeves would stay in the role until 2013.

However, Reeves returned to Port Charles in an October 24, 2024, episode. The actor talked about his return to General Hospital in an interview with Soap Opera Digest.

Reeves admitted he was surprised at being asked to return to the show. He had been contacted by the series’ executive producer, Frank Valentini, in a phone call.

During the call, Valenti asked if he was available around September. He then proceeded to tell him a story about a possible storyline for his character in General Hospital.

As Reeves shared, “It’s funny, because over the past 10 years, we’ve stayed in contact, and I’ve texted with Frank back and forth and I’d say, ‘Hey, is there a parole hearing anytime soon?’ And now he was telling me, ‘Steve’s gotten out of jail, he’s been released on parole,’ and when he told me the storyline idea, I couldn’t have been more excited.”

It’s one thing for Reeves to return, but things are also complicated for his character, Steven Webber. When fans last saw him, he was about to marry Olivia Falconeri, only to be arrested for murder.

The Return Turned Out To Be Bittersweet For Reeves

As Reeves noted, “I think he was so anticipating it, but dreading [it], just a little bit, because he didn’t know what it was going to be like, coming back. Is he gonna run into Olivia? Port Charles is a small town! Even walking back into the hub at the hospital was kind of surreal, because Steve’s lost his medical license.”

Reeves’ return turned out to be an emotional one. As he noted, “I walked in the doors and I walked into the makeup room and was welcomed by people that I’d known for years and worked with over a decade ago.”

As he continued, “And then at the same time, it was bittersweet because 11 years can bring a lot of change and we’ve lost a lot of people over the last decade.” makeup department head Donna Messina, producer Nneka Garland, and actress Sonya Eddy, who played Epiphany Johnson.

The series will also see the return of the character’s mother, Heather Webber, now played by Alley Mills. This will be the first time Reeves has worked with Mills, who took on the role from Robin Mattson. Mills herself is also known for her roles on The Wonder Years and The Bold and the Beautiful.

Reeves shared, “That was an incredible treat for me. I grew up [watching] her and she’s just amazing. I had so much fun again. She is a ‘hoot!’ She’s hilarious and such a great actress and she really ate this role up!”
