General Hospital Spoilers – More Information On The Changes To General Hospital’s Writing Team

This past May, the soap announced that Patrick Mulcahey had stepped down as co-head writer, a role he had alongside Korte since January of this year.

Content written by Mulcahey and Korte was scheduled to air for the majority of the summer.

Along with Van Etten’s announcement, Cathy LePard, GH Script and Breakdown Writer has been promoted to associate head writer.

LePard’s credits before GH include Seventh Heaven, Safe Harbor, and The Fix.

The first show written by the new GH writing team is set to air on Thursday, August 8.

GH’s Spoilers – Executive Producer Frank Valentini Issues Statement

GH’s EP, Frank Valentini issued the following statement to SOD:

“No one knows General Hospital and its history more than Elizabeth and Chris. Cathy joined the show in 2023 and her talent and love for the genre has been a tremendous asset to this team. We look forward to this dynamic writing combination continuing the legacy of the show and giving our fans much to look forward to.”

A long-time soap fan, Van Etten landed his first daytime drama writing gig at One Life to Life (OLTL), working under Ron Carlivati, who recently left Days of Our Lives.

Van Etten would follow Carlivati and Valentini to GH in 2012 after OLTL was canceled.

In July 2015, Shelly Altman and Jean Passanante replaced Carlivati (who was head writer there at the time) and in July 2017 Van Etten was paired with Altman and named co-head writer.

When 2019 hit, Dan O’Connor, who had worked on OLTL at the same time as the others, came to GH and replaced Altman after she retired.

Fast forward to this past January, and both the co-head writers left their positions when Mulcahey took over with Korte as his co-head writer.

The new writing team is kicking off during a pivotal time on the soap, as Kristina Corinthos-Davis’s (Kate Mansi) accident, and the subsequent loss of her baby has shaken and touched so many different characters.

There’s also the bombshell dropped this week, where Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) was at his breaking point and it was finally revealed that his medication had been tampered with, and he was taking placebos.
