Actor Chad Duell recently made his departure from General Hospital. Since then, the actor has revealed a new job with fans. Thanks to this, fans are wondering if it will impact a possible return to the soap.
Chad Duell Announced His Departure From General Hospital This Past November
Duell got his start as an actor in children’s shows in the late 2000s, including Wizards of Waverly Place and The Suite Life on Deck. However, in 2010, he would make his big break into soaps with General Hospital.
Duell would play Michael Corinthos on the soap, having taken on the role from Drew Garrett. In late November 2024, Duell announced he would leave the soap. His final episode aired in January 2025.
As noted by Michael Fairman TV, when Duell originally announced his departure, he shared his interest in taking on new projects. In fact, the actor notably shared a new project.
Duell is serve as a co-lead in an upcoming new stage play, Yum Yum at Annapolis, alongside actor Zach Mendez. Bruce Reisman serves as a director and writer for the play.
The story was reportedly inspired by the real-life friendship in 1939 between American playwright Eugene O’Neill and a sailor, “Eddie,” who he hires to rebuild his front porch. It is on this porch that O’Neill wrote Long Day’s Journey Into Night.
Mendez will play O’Neill while Duell has been cast as Eddie. Notably, the two actors make up the whole cast of the 90-minute play. Production notes describe the play as an “Acting Olympics” for its actors.

The news was shared in an Instagram post from Stoneypoint Entertainment, as well as its two stars. As its caption shared, “Rehearsals begin with table read next week, then the public, full-tech and costumed, invited audience concert reading in April in Los Angeles at the legendary @elportaltheatre in NoHo. It’s the start of a journey to New York, where an Off-Off Broadway run is planned for late fall.”
Taking to the comments, many fans were happy to see Duell return to acting. As one fan wrote, “Congrats Chad – knew you were looking to stretch those acting muscles! Bravo! You’ll be amazing, but you are so needed back on GH too! You are missed.” Notably, Duell’s former co-star Cameron Mathison also shared a few applause emojis in the comments.
Meanwhile, with Duell continuing his work as an actor, some fans are wondering if he will soon make a return to General Hospital. Notably, it had previously been confirmed that there were no immediate plans to recast the character, suggesting the door was being left open for Duell’s return.
As the publication noted, Duell recently spoke with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson on the Daily Drama podcast. As he shared “We’ll see what happens in the future, but right now, I’m just trying to grow in ways that maybe I stifled myself. Sometimes you have to take drastic steps or make yourself feel uncomfortable to take a step and that’s kind of what I have not allowed myself to do.”
