CBS Legend Passes Away! General Hospital Leslie Charleson died, Very Heartbreaking News!

Just two weeks into the new year, the daytime community is already mourning a huge loss. Soap legend Leslie Charlson, known as Monica on General Hospital, passed away on January 12th at the age of 79 after a lengthy illness.

Not only was the actress the beloved matriarch of the Quartermaine family, but she was also the soap’s longest-running cast member, having played Dr. Monica Quartermaine since 1977.

Charlson’s Port Charles co-stars and colleagues from the greater soap community shared their condolences and memories of the late star on social media.

Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis):
“My friend and castmate Leslie Charlson took flight today. She battled and survived a multitude of health challenges in the last couple of years like a goddamn warrior. This badass was a GH whippersnapper — savvy, talented, gorgeous, grounded, and a horse-whispering, world-class woman. It was an honor to know her and love her.”

John Lindstrom (Kevin, GH):
“This lady so deserves to be remembered. Leslie Charlson was one of the funniest, most talented, and smartest people I ever had the good fortune to know. And I even got to work with her.

She could be rude and crude but always with a sense of humor. Everyone loved being around her, even when she’d deliberately roll over your foot with her wheelchair — yes, she did that to me, and I loved her for it.

She also had a résumé to respect and envy — from GH to those Pearl Drops commercials to The Day of the Dolphin with Mike Nichols and George C. Scott. RIP, legend.”

“I am so fortunate to have had one more scene with Leslie when I came back to GH. My memories of GH have her fingerprints all over them. I loved her. She will be so greatly missed.”

I’ve been wanting to text her over the last few days, as Los Angeles has been a stressful place to be over the last week. Unfortunately, on the second day of the fires, my phone crashed, and I lost my contacts, so I couldn’t text her.

Finally retrieved her number today, only to find out she passed away last night. So, so very sorry for all the fans of GH and the crew who really loved her. She was very grateful to Frank Valentini for keeping her busy over the years. A real loss.”

We never worked together again, but I would see her at the Emmys, and it was always a wonderful reunion. Sleep now, beauty. You brought so much joy to millions of fans for so many decades. It was a joy to know you.”
