General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal that Sophia Matson, who plays Sasha Corbin, and Josh Kelly, who plays Cody Bell, didn’t get much warning when they found out their characters are cousins. However, they understood once they were told why their characters kept having potential romantic moments interrupted.
Sasha has seemed to be the queen of sadness and sorrowful outcomes since her character’s introduction in 2018. From bird flu to kidnapping, she’s been through it all. Her brief happiness with husband Brando Corbin (Johnny Wactor) was marred by the loss of their premature baby, Liam Mike Corbin, and later, Brando’s murder.
She has also faced drug addiction, grief over her dead baby, and even a breakdown during a live show as a model for Deception Cosmetics. If that wasn’t enough, she nearly died from a heart attack due to an overdose of an experimental street drug given to her by Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober).
And now, she finds out that the man she’s in love with is her first cousin, which means they can’t be together. This recent twist in General Hospital has left nearly everyone in shock, as Sasha is revealed to be the daughter of Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) and Holly Sutton (Emma Samms). While this revelation provides Sasha with a rather chaotic family dynamic, it also uncovers that she and Cody are first cousins, with his father being Mac Scorpio (John J. York).
Given their passionate romance, this news is the last thing they expected, and unfortunately, it signifies the end of their relationship before it even had a chance to reach its full potential. In hindsight, perhaps that’s for the best. Many fans were disappointed that they never got to consummate their relationship, and Matson explained that it was challenging to keep quiet about why their interruptions were a blessing in disguise.
Matson has mixed feelings about the big reveal. Although she expressed her joy about joining the Scorpio family, she said, “I’m super happy and excited. Since I started on the show, I’ve wanted a family connection, and now, six years later, it’s finally here. I’m thrilled and honored.”
However, this joy comes with the sadness of Sasha and Cody’s relationship ending. “It’s really sad,” she told Cody. “They were sweet together and had the potential to be a great couple, but I guess I should have expected it—it’s a soap, and happiness doesn’t last long.”
Hopefully, Sasha will eventually find happiness that lasts. Although she and Kelly haven’t had much time to talk about their characters’ breakup, she mentioned, “We’re both glad we’ll still be connected, even if it’s as cousins instead of lovers.”
